Oriole

Habitat

Open areas with scattered trees such as orchards, gardens, parks, and backyards. In Florida, they are often seen in spring and summer.

Diet

  • Insects (especially during nesting season)
  • Fruits and berries
  • Nectar

Lifespan

About 7–10 years in the wild.

Special Behavior

  • Males are a rich chestnut (reddish-brown) with black—very striking
  • Females are yellow-green and more subtle
  • They weave hanging nests that look like little pouches
  • Their song is a series of sweet whistles
